Lancaster, you never disappoint me. Though I no longer live in this wonderful city, I will gladly drive in from Baltimore for a show. The punk scene is thriving, especially with the recently launched DIY label Tiger Hawk Records. With four releases under their belt already, the label just promoted their first show at American Bar and Grill. It was a great evening of punk rock and I was there to capture it all on video.
Get In The Van, playing their first show, ripped through their set in just 17 minutes leaving the crowd wanting more. Sherwin played an energetic set and I truly enjoyed seeing them for the first time. The Akrons are just a fun band, period. I love ’em! And lastly, The Program reunited to play songs from their 2003 album “Songs for a Broken Hard Drive” plus a few new songs.
Get In The Van is playing again at American Bar and Grill on June 27 with The Holy Mess, Seeing Snakes, and The Akrons.
Sherwin is playing at Fulton Street Arts Cooperative on May 9 with Cheerbleeders. They’ll be entering the studio in the next couple months to record for an EP release. Follow them on Facebook and listen to them on Bandcamp.
The Akrons have a new record coming out in April on Tiger Hawk Records, plus a few shows coming up:
March 21 – Longswamp Tavern, Kutztown, PA w/Hate To Say It, The Riverside Odds, Somebody’s Circus
April 18 – Bube’s Brewery, Mt. Joy, PA w/Whats Her Name
June 27th – American Bar & Grill, Lancaster, PA w/ The Holy Mess, Seeing Snakes, Get In The Van
Stay up-to-date with them on Facebook and listen to them on PureVolume.
The Program is back!
Joe Barber may be living in Oregon, but the band has written four new songs in the last month. They were in the studio just a few hours prior to the show putting the final touches on five songs recorded in 2013. It was a whirlwind weekend, especially for Joe who was fighting a case of laryngitis. He didn’t let it slow him down any as his vocal box warmed up after a couple songs and he bounced around the ABAG for the entire 55-minute set. It was so good to see these guys play again.
Copies of their out-of-print CD, “Songs for a Broken Hard Drive”, can still be found on Amazon and eBay.
Thanks to the staff at Tiger Hawk Records for a fun night of punk rock! We’ll be talking with them soon to find out more about the label as well as upcoming releases and shows. In the meantime, check them out on Facebook and pick up a copy of the new Mid Rats EP, “Vandalize You” and “Volume 1: The Schröedinger Chronicles” compilation featuring Sherwin, The Akrons, Mid Rats, Seeing Snakes, Shitty Friends, Testosteroso, and more.
Thank you for reading my blog. After taking off a few months, I am back to interviewing bands – old and new. Stay tuned. And please support the bands mentioned here and in the Band Directory. Follow them on social media, stream their music, share with your friends, and go to their shows. It means so much to them.
